Moisture

Stone wool starter blocks have high moisture retention.

Nutrient Content

Once treated, stone wool starter blocks will hold nutirent content

Oxygen Availability

97% when dry but rapidly hydrates. If allowed to drain the stone wool starter blocks allows for excellent oxygen to roots.

pH and EC

Stone wool has neutral pH, but can be controlled.

REDROCK: Predictable Water Mobility

RedRock Wool ensures uniform movement of water and nutrients throughout the plug, block, or slab. Our products will wet-up and dry back with predictability so growers can steer crops further than ever before. New tooling and technology blend horizontal and vertical fibers for the most homogenous and predictable water transport to date.

  • Eliminates channeling and dry zones.
  • Predictable water movement and nutrient availability.
  • Water moves horizontally then vertically for full saturation.

Other Stonewool Companies

  • Overall unreliable water dispersion in the root zone leading to plant stress and overall quality loss.

SELECT GROW MEDIA FOR COMMERCIAL USE

It is common to find propagators moving fresh cuttings into plugs for the initial stage of development. Once rooted plants are transplanted into stone wool grow blocks and then placed ontop of grow slabs to extend root zone development and access to water and nutrients. Selecting the correct substrate for your crop depends on many variables such as size, duration, density, and more.

REDROCK BLOCK’S USER GUIDE

  1. RedRock blocks are ultra-durable and made from premium material, but they should still be handled with care; Always keep mineral wool dry until use.
  2. Saturate plugs by spraying with nutrient solution or submerging them for about one minute. Squeeze gently or let them drain for a few seconds before placing them onto slabs.
  3. Transplant starter plugs into the blocks’ pre-drilled holes.
  4. As your fertigation system circulates nutrients and water to your plants, RedRock’s specialized wetting agent will deliver it evenly throughout your plants’ root zone.

Material properties table detailing specific characteristics, their definitions or methodologies, and the corresponding values. Properties include density, bond strength, free drainage/water factor or field capacity, and sink time or hydration. Each property's methodology gives insight into how values are determined, like mass per unit of volume for density, or the time it takes for a block to sink in water to measure hydration.
PROPERTY Definition/methodology Definition VALUE
Density Mass per unit of volume 5.0 lb/ft³
Bond strength Blocks are pressed with a metal rod until punctured to measure their resistance against punctures/dents 200 lb/ft2
Free drainage/water factor/field capacity Blocks are fully saturated, then allowed to drain for ten minutes – how much water remains? 90%
Sink time / hydration Blocks are placed dry onto the surface of water and the length of time before the block fully sinks shows how readily the block absorbs water 15 seconds
